The Cowlitz Tribe of Washington says its plan for a 152-acre initial reservation includes a casino.
The announcement ends speculation over the tribe's goals. While many speculated there would be a casino, officials were mum on the issue.
That has some critical of the tribe's strategy. "From Day One, this has been like some kind of informational Chinese water torture, with ... the Cowlitz withholding or reluctantly dribbling out bits of information," The Columbian says in an editorial.
The tribe has partnered with the Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut for the casino.
