The Eastern Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma has several sites in mind for a casino in western Ohio.
The former Mercy hospital in Hamilton is under consideration but a tribal consultant said the site might not be able to handle the traffic associated with a casino. The tribe is also looking at other cities closer to the interstate.
The tribe is claiming 1.2 million acres in Ohio and will settle for gaming rights. Gov. Bob Taft (R) opposes expansion of gaming, a spokesperson said.
