An independent report from the Analysis Group Inc. shows that Indian gaming revenues for 2003 were $16.2 billion, up 12.1 percent.
The report said tribes California, Connecticut, Minnesota, Arizona and Wisconsin generated the most revenues. In Arizona, tribes took in $1.2 billion, up $151 million from 2002. The increase came from the addition of more slot machines, The Arizona Republic said.
In Wisconsin, tribes took in nearly $1.1 billion last year, according to the report. But the estimate was based on compacts that have since been challenged in court.
Other states in the top 10 were Michigan, Washington, Florida, New Mexico and New York, which saw a 116.6 percent increase last year, according to the report. Oklahoma was ranked 12th, with $465.9 million, up 32.2 percent.
Indian gaming experts said the estimates in the report may be too high. Last week, a National Indian Gaming Commission (NIGC) official said revenues would exceed $16 billion.
