Wisconsin Republicans approved an additional $32,000 in taxpayer funds for the lawsuit they brought against tribal-state gaming compacts.
Lawmakers had already approved $62,500 for their attorneys. Democrats say the $92,000 bill is a waste of money but Republicans say Gov. Jim Doyle (D) spent $125,000 for an outside consultant to negotiate the compacts.
The state Supreme Court struck down provisions in the compact Doyle signed with the Forest County Potawatomi Tribe. Ten other tribes signed nearly identical agreements that allowed for more Class III games, longer hours of operation and no expiration date.
