The Poarch Band of Creek Indians is hoping to negotiate a Class III compact with the state of Alabama but the governor says he is opposed to any expansion of gaming.
The tribe is planning a $120 million casino, hotel and convention center in Wetumpka. Chairman Eddie Tullis said the facility would generate 6,000 jobs and revenue for the state.
The tribe was lobbying against a bill to allow high-stakes bingo at dog tracks. The bill failed to clear the Legislature.
