A Navajo Nation community near Gallup, New Mexico, is putting forth plans for a casino.
The Manuelito Chapter gave a presentation to a Navajo Nation council committee on Tuesday.
The chapter says a casino could generate revenues of $18.6 million in the first year of operation. After paying a fee to a management company and other expenses, the profit could be about $2 million, the committee was told. Profits would rise in future years.
Gaming is currently limited to the To'Hajiilee community, which is separated from the main Navajo reservation. The tribe, however, has scheduled a reservation-wide referendum on gaming this fall.
