The San Juan Southern Paiute Tribe of Arizona is interested in building a casino, The Arizona Republic reports.
The tribe, one of the state's smallest, is seeking trust status for a parcel near Flagstaff. The tribe could ask Congress for approval or go through the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
The tribe gained federal recognition in 1990. Its members live on land within the Navajo Nation. The two tribes have a treaty regarding land selection. The parcel near Flagstaff is not adjacent to the Navajo Reservation.
