The state of Arizona received $37.8 million in revenues from tribal casinos, The Arizona Republic reports.
Under new compacts, tribes are required to share a percentage of their revenues with the state. The money goes to schools, emergency/trauma services, wildlife conservation, tourism, gambling addiction treatment and regulation.
Tribes also gave $5.1 million directly to local governments, according to the paper.
The state's share of gaming revenues is expected to be larger after September 30 due to a change in the way some tribes send their payments.
