The Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes of Oklahoma will announce plans to build a casino in Colorado at a news conference today.
The tribes have a claim to 500 acres of land in eastern Colorado. They are willing to settle the claim for gaming rights in the state.
According to The Denver Post, the tribes are looking at a site near the Denver International Airport or in Central City. Backers of the deal including several Alaska Native corporations, which are not tribes.
The tribes plan to ask the Interior Department to have land placed into trust. Under normal guidelines, this would require approval of the state governor.
