Choctaw Nation assistant chief Mike Bailey on Thursday explained how the tribe purchased a racetrack right under the nose of the Cherokee Nation.
Bailey said the tribe created a Texas corporation called Backstretch LLC in Austin, Texas, which happens to be the headquarters of Multimedia Games. The corporation bid on the Blue Ribbon Downs racetrack without alerting the Cherokees. The track is located within Cherokee territory.
The track is one of three facilities that will be able to offer certain electronic games if a tribal-state compact gains approval. The tribe would have to share a portion of the revenues with the state.
