A California lawmaker has introduced two bills to authorize a casino for the Gabrielio/Tongva Nation, a tribe that is recognized by the state but not by the federal government.
The first bill would set up a reservation for the tribe in Compton. The site is located near an historic Tongva village.
The second bill would authorize a gaming compact with the tribe for a 4,000-slot machine casino on the proposed reservation. The tribe would share 20 percent of its gross revenues with the state.
Assemblyman Mervyn Dymally, a Democrat, introduced the bills.
