SEPTEMBER 8, 2000 Native American purchasing power, on the whole, will haved increased 81 percent by 2001, according a study released by the University of Georgia. State by state, the data varies. Here is a look at the buying power of Native Americans by various measures: Largest Market, Largest Share of Market, and Fastest Growing Market. Largest Market: The top states by population rank are also the top states in terms of market. Largest Share of Market: The top states in terms of percentage of Native population are also the top states in terms of market share of the state. However, Native Americans do not control the same amount of the market in relation to their percentage of the population. Fastest Growing: Some of the fastest growing states have "relatively small, but flourishing markets," according to Jeffrey M. Humphreys, director of economic forecasting at the Terry School of Business.
