Students try Kit Carson on genocide charges

Students in New Mexico put U.S. Army Colonel Kit Carson, the man who ordered the Navajos on the Long Walk of 1864, on trial for genocide and other crimes.

After many witnesses, detailed testimony -- including the fact that Carson apparently spoke 13 Native language, adopted three Indian children and didn't kill every Navajo he came in contact with despite direct orders -- and much deliberation, only some found him guilty of genocide.
