Indian affairs commission sought in Indiana
Thursday, February 6, 2003

A group of American Indians in Indiana staged a rally on Wednesday to call for the creation of a state Indian affairs commission.

A bill was introduced last year to create the commission but some lawmakers feared it would open the door to gaming. The state has related commissions for Hispanics and African-Americans.

The state's Indian population is nearly 40,000, according to the 2000 Census.
