Native filmmakers seek audience and respect

Native American participation in the Sundance film festival has increased 50 percent, USA Today reports. But that doesn't mean Native filmmakers are being given chances to show their work. Native directors, producers and their patrons say they encounter opposition in the industry. "For years, nobody would support Native American filmmakers," Robert Redford told the paper. "Distributors said, 'There is no market, there is no interest.' But I would say: 'C'mon, you guys. Have you really given it a chance?" Get the Story:
