19 new cases, 51,014 recoveries, and no deaths related to COVID-19 reported

WINDOW ROCK, Arizona – On Friday, the Navajo Department of Health, in coordination with the Navajo Epidemiology Center and the Navajo Area Indian Health Service, reported 19 new COVID-19 cases for the Navajo Nation and no deaths. The total number of deaths remains 1,658. The report indicates that 51,014 individuals have recovered from COVID-19. 502,636 COVID-19 tests have been administered. The overall total number of positive COVID-19 cases is now 52,802, including three delayed reported cases.

Navajo Nation COVID-19 positive cases by Service Unit:

• Chinle Service Unit: 10,112
• Crownpoint Service Unit: 5,139
• Ft. Defiance Service Unit: 5,365
• Gallup Service Unit: 8,864
• Kayenta Service Unit: 5,002
• Shiprock Service Unit: 9,785
• Tuba City Service Unit: 5,706
• Winslow Service Unit: 2,807

* 22 residences with COVID-19 positive cases are not specific enough to place them accurately in a Service Unit.

On Friday, the state of New Mexico reported 156 new cases and Utah reported 120 new cases. The state of Arizona now reports COVID-19 cases on a weekly basis, each Wednesday. 

“It has been reported that the latest Omicron sub-variant has been detected in the state of Arizona. Health officials continue to monitor the spread of the sub-variant and will continue to provide updates. Our numbers are very low in terms of new COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations, but we must keep our guard up and remain mindful of the sub-variant. The mask mandate in public places remains in effect for the entire Navajo Nation and it does apply to our visitors as well. Please take precautions, get vaccinated, and keep pushing back on the virus,” said Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez.

Health care facilities on the Navajo Nation continue to administer COVID-19 vaccines. If you would like to receive one of the COVID-19 vaccines, please contact your health care provider and schedule an appointment.
