11 new cases, 49,818 recoveries, and two deaths related to COVID-19

WINDOW ROCK, Arizona – On Friday, the Navajo Department of Health, in coordination with the Navajo Epidemiology Center and the Navajo Area Indian Health Service, reported 11 new COVID-19 cases for the Navajo Nation and two deaths. The total number of deaths is now 1,641. The report indicates that 49,818 individuals have recovered from COVID-19. 489,977 COVID-19 tests have been administered. The overall total number of positive COVID-19 cases is now 52,023, including four delayed reported cases.

Navajo Nation COVID-19 positive cases by Service Unit:

• Chinle Service Unit: 9,895
• Crownpoint Service Unit: 5,051
• Ft. Defiance Service Unit: 5,324
• Gallup Service Unit: 8,718
• Kayenta Service Unit: 4,899
• Shiprock Service Unit: 9,638
• Tuba City Service Unit: 5,676
• Winslow Service Unit: 2,800

* 22 residences with COVID-19 positive cases are not specific enough to place them accurately in a Service Unit.

On Friday, the state of Arizona reported 3,054 new cases, the state of Utah reported 999 new cases, and New Mexico reported 977 cases. 

“We are seeing a gradual decline in the numbers of new cases, but we have to remain diligent and keep taking precautions to lessen the spread of COVID-19 in our homes and communities. Wearing two masks in public places and getting fully vaccinated are the best defense against this virus. Please be very cautious, encourage your elders to take precautions, and continue to pray,” said Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez.

Health care facilities on the Navajo Nation continue to administer COVID-19 vaccines. If you would like to receive one of the COVID-19 vaccines, please contact your health care provider and schedule an appointment.

“Our faith in our prayers and the love of our family and friends continue to carry us through this pandemic. Our frontline workers continue to fight hard for all of us each day. So please, help them by taking extra precautions and taking care of our elders and those with underlying health conditions. We are in this together,” said Vice President Myron Lizer.
