136 new cases, 48,006 recoveries, and no deaths related to COVID-19
WINDOW ROCK, Arizona – On Sunday, the Navajo Department of Health, in coordination with the Navajo Epidemiology Center and the NavajoArea Indian Health Service, reported 136 new COVID-19 cases for the Navajo Nation and no deaths. The total number of deaths remains 1,621. The report indicates that 48,006 individuals have recovered from COVID-19. 479,876 COVID-19 tests have been administered. The overall total number of positive COVID-19 cases is now 51,153, including eight delayed reported cases.
Navajo Nation COVID-19 positive cases by Service Unit:
- Chinle Service Unit: 9,645
- Crownpoint Service Unit: 4,926
- Ft. Defiance Service Unit: 5,281
- Gallup Service Unit: 8,570
- Kayenta Service Unit: 4,772
- Shiprock Service Unit: 9,396
- Tuba City Service Unit: 5,627
- Winslow Service Unit: 2,770
* 166 residences with COVID-19 positive cases are not specific enough to place them accurately in a Service Unit.
On Sunday, the state of Arizona reported 6,379 new cases. The states of Utah and New Mexico will report weekend case numbers on Monday.
“We are beginning to see the start of a plateau in terms of new COVID-19 cases, but we have to remain diligent and keep taking precautions. Wear two masks in public, get fully vaccinated including a booster shot, and stay home as much as possible. We are in this together and we will overcome this modern-day monster known as COVID-19,” said Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez.
Health care facilities on the Navajo Nation continue to administer COVID-19 vaccines. If you would like to receive one of the COVID-19 vaccines, please contact your health care provider and schedule an appointment.
“Take precautions, support one another, and keep praying. This pandemic has taken its toll on all of our people, so we have to show our love and support for our loved ones, especially our elders. Be safe and keep praying for our people and frontline workers,” said Vice President Myron Lizer.
