WINDOW ROCK, Arizona – On Friday, the Navajo Department of Health, in coordination with the Navajo Epidemiology Center and the Navajo Area Indian Health Service, reported 21 new COVID-19 cases for the Navajo Nation and no deaths. The total number of deaths remains 1,578. A full report will be available after the holiday weekend.
On Friday, the state of Arizona reported 3,808 new cases. The states of Utah and New Mexico will resume reporting of case numbers following the Christmas holiday.
“We wish all of our Diné a safe and Merry Christmas! Please be very cautious, take precautions, and be safe this holiday. Celebrate safely and responsibly, and please do not drink and drive. Stay warm and drive carefully if you have to travel this weekend. We are in this together and we will continue to pray for our people, frontline warriors, those serving in the Armed Forces, and our elders and youth,” said Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez.
Health care facilities across the Navajo Nation continue to administer COVID-19 vaccines. If you would like to receive one of the COVID-19 vaccines, please contact your health care provider and schedule an appointment.
“This Christmas, we pray and give thanks for all of the blessings from our Creator and we ask for strength and comfort for those who are grieving the loss of a loved one. We want everyone to enjoy this time safely with your family and take comfort in knowing that you are taking the proper precautions to stay safe and healthy. Please be safe and keep praying for our people,” said Vice President Myron Lizer.
