12 new cases, 29,224 recoveries, and one more death related to COVID-19

WINDOW ROCK, Ariz. – On Saturday, the Navajo Department of Health, in coordination with the Navajo Epidemiology Center and the Navajo Area Indian Health Service, reported 12 new COVID-19 positive cases for the Navajo Nation and one more death. The total number of deaths is now 1,284 as of Saturday. Reports indicate that 29,224 individuals have recovered from COVID-19. 267,503 COVID-19 tests have been administered. The total number of positive COVID-19 cases is now 30,590. 

Navajo Nation COVID-19 positive cases by Service Unit:

• Chinle Service Unit: 5,584
• Crownpoint Service Unit: 2,940
• Ft. Defiance Service Unit: 3,635
• Gallup Service Unit: 4,852
• Kayenta Service Unit: 2,719
• Shiprock Service Unit: 5,145
• Tuba City Service Unit: 3,722
• Winslow Service Unit: 1,974

* 19 residences with COVID-19 positive cases are not specific enough to place them accurately in a Service Unit.

On Saturday, the state of Arizona reported 939 new cases, Utah reported 360, and New Mexico will report its weekend cases on Monday. The Navajo Area Indian Health Service reported that 247,165 total vaccine doses have been received, 226,819 administered, which represents nearly 92-percent. 100783 individuals have been fully vaccinated.

Be safe and continue to pray for our frontline warriors, our people, and our communities,” said Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez. 

The Navajo Epidemiology Center, under the Navajo Department of Health, will not report COVID-19 cases on Sunday, May 9 due to the Mother’s Day holiday, to allow employees and health care workers to spend time with their families. Daily reports will resume on Monday, May 10. 

“Mother’s Day is a special time to give thanks and praise for all of the mothers, grandmothers, foster parents, and caretakers who devote their lives to caring and loving others.
