Nez-Lizer to host Memorial Day wreath laying ceremony and Navajo veteran’s food distribution
WINDOW ROCK, Ariz. – Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez and Vice President Myron Lizer announced that the Navajo Nation Office of the President and Vice President, in coordination with the Navajo Veterans Administration, will host a wreath laying ceremony on Memorial Day to honor military men and women who lost their lives defending our country and those missing in action, and a food distribution for Navajo veterans to assist them during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The wreath laying ceremony will be live-streamed on the Nez-Lizer Facebook page on Monday, May 25 beginning at 8:00 a.m. President Nez and Vice President Lizer will also share a Memorial Day message for Navajo veterans on local radio stations. Following the wreath laying ceremony, the Office of the President and Vice President will hold a food distribution for all Navajoveterans at 9:00 a.m. on Monday at the fairgrounds in Window Rock.
“On Memorial Day, we ask the Navajo people to join us in giving thanks to all Navajo veterans and we ask you to pray for those who lost their lives and those are still missing in action. Through the food distributions we have held so far, we have helped many veterans across the Navajo Nation, but we also want to set aside a special food distribution for our Navajo veterans to assist them during the COVID-19 pandemic. The invitation is extended to all Navajo veterans on the Navajo Nation,” said President Nez.
The Office of the President and Vice President has distributed food, bottled water, and other supplies to over 8,000 families in 60 communities on the Navajo Nation to help people stay home and stay safe during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The events are a small token of appreciation to show our veterans that we recognize and honor everything they and their families have sacrificed for the freedoms we have today. We invite all veterans to join us for the food distribution to help during the ongoing pandemic,” said Vice President Lizer.
The food distribution will be a no-contact operation. Please remain in your vehicle with all windows rolled up. Staff members will load the items into vehicles with no direct contact for the safety of everyone and to lessen the risk of the spread of COVID-19.
