Statement of Chief Richard Sneed Regarding Distribution of Coronavirus Relief Fund Dollars to Tribal Nations
(Cherokee, North Carolina) – Richard Sneed, the Principal Chief of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, released the following statement this morning regarding the announcement that an agreement had been struck to begin immediately distributing federal Coronavirus relief funds to Native American tribes.
Chief Sneed, commenting on the release of $4.8 billion in relief funds, said:
We are grateful to President Trump, Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, Secretary Bernhardt and Secretary Mnuchin for their efforts to disburse these funds to Tribal Nations. While much work remains to be done, we appreciate their thoughtful approach to navigating a thorny issue and look forward to working with them to resolve other outstanding issues.
