The Indian Health Service has updated its coronavirus testing data, showing results as of 11:59pm Eastern on April 30, 2020.
According to the data, 35,748 tests have been administered within the IHS system. Of those, 3,607 registered positive for COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus. That represents a 4.1 percent increase from the 3,465 cases previously reported.
Overall, testing increased by 5.6 percent between April 29 and April 30. But some areas continue to lag.
The Bemidji Area, which serves more than 110,000 American Indians and Alaska Natives, and the Tucson Area, which serves nearly 27,000, have yet to break the 1,000-test milestone, which every other region reached days or even weeks ago in some situations.
Bemidji Area testing, though, has picked up in recent days. The number of tests administered in the region grew 11 percent between April 29 and April 30, according to the data. It grew by nearly 30 percent between April 28 and April 29.
The same can’t be said for the Tucson Area. Between April 29 and April 30, testing only grew by about 3.5 percent, the data shows. Between April 28 and April 29, it only increased by about 3.4 percent.
“Data is reported from IHS, tribal, and urban Indian organization facilities, though reporting by tribal and urban programs is voluntary,” the IHS states on its website.
