The Indian Health Service has updated its coronavirus testing data, reflecting results as of 11:59pm Eastern on April 23, 2020.
According to the data, 23,788 tests have been administered within the IHS system. Of those, 2,528 have returned positive. That represents an increase of nearly 9 percent from the 2,322 previously reported.
Testing continues to grow at a greater pace across most regions of the IHS. The Alaska Area, the Albuquerque Area, the Billings Area, the Navajo Area and the Oklahoma City have all administered more than 2,400 tests in recent days, according to the data.
The California Area, however, appears to have stalled. Testing since April 21 has only grown 5.5 percent in a state that is home to the largest population of American Indians and Alaska Natives.
And testing in the Bemidji Area is finally ramping up after days of stagnant growth. The region includes 34 tribes and 4 urban Indian programs in five states in the Midwest.
“Data is reported from IHS, tribal, and urban Indian organization facilities, though reporting by tribal and urban programs is voluntary,” the agency states on its website.
