In an update on April 24, 2020, the Pueblo of Zuni confirmed an increase in COVID-19 cases within the tribe’s region of New Mexico.
Of the 344 tests conducted so far, 44 people have tested positive for COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus. Of those, 28 are from Zuni, according to data shared by the tribe.
The results reflect tests at the local Indian Health Service unit. It serves people at Zuni as well as residents at the nearby Ramah Chapter of the Navajo Nation.
The Ramah Chapter is located primarily in Cibola County. According to data released by the Navajo Nation, 15 people in the county have tested positive for COVID-19.
