Luján Announces “Community Champions” Initiative to Showcase New Mexicans Serving Their Communities | |
Nambé, N.M. – Today, Congressman Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.), the U.S. House Assistant Speaker, announced the “Community Champions” initiative to showcase New Mexicans who are bravely serving their communities during the COVID-19 pandemic. The ongoing public health crisis has changed the lives of many, but New Mexicans remain strong, resilient, and driven by a commitment to the health and safety of their community.
“The current crisis has created unique challenges for our families, but I have been inspired by New Mexicans who are stepping up to meet the needs of their communities. From neighbors helping deliver groceries to the elderly and vulnerable, to the ‘Rosie the Respirators’ group sewing masks for essential personnel, we are witnessing what makes New Mexico so special. During times like these, we must support each other – and that’s exactly what we are seeing on a daily basis in our communities,” said Luján. “These positive stories deserve to be heard and uplifted, and our Community Champions deserve our recognition. I look forward to sharing these stories with the rest of New Mexico as we all do our part to stop the spread of this pandemic.”
New Mexicans are encouraged to nominate Community Champions on the lujan.house.gov website. Congressman Luján will highlight these Champions during his weekly Facebook townhalls and across his social media platforms. |
