In a video address on April 9, 2020, Governor Wilfred Herrera Jr. of the Pueblo of Laguna updated his people on a coronavirus stay at home order for residents of the reservation and a closure order for outsiders.
Though the tribe has not confirmed any COVID-19 cases among its citizens, Herrera said everyone should pay attention because the coronavirus can be easily spread.
“This is a wake up call,” Herrera said in the video.
“The virus doesn’t discriminate,” Herrera added. “No one is immune.”
Laguna is located about 45 miles west of Albuquerque, the largest city in New Mexico. A major interstate runs through the reservation.
