The Pueblo of Zuni is closing out the workweek with a promising development: no new COVID-19 cases.

The tribe has so far reported large number of cases: a total of 24. But the vast majority of those who have been tested have returned negative for COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus.

“The Pueblo of Zuni and Emergency Management is stressing to the community to adhere to the shelter-in-place and social distancing; understand that it takes one person to infect everyone around them,” an update posted on April 10, 2020, reads.

According to the update, 198 people have been tested as of April 9. The results include 24 positive and 158 negative.

In a separate update on April 10, Governor Val Panteah clarified that the tribe’s data includes anyone who has been tested through the Indian Health Service. As a result, it includes people from the neighboring Navajo Nation, he said.
