The Indian Health Service has updated its coronavirus testing data, showing results as of 7pm Eastern on April 9, 2020.
According to the data, 10,729 people within the IHS system have been tested. Of those, 816 are positive for COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus. The number represents a 10 percent increase from the 741 cases previously reported.
The data continues to show an increase in testing across most regions of the IHS. Areas that had been lagging, such as Billings and Great Plains, have been ramping up in recent days.
The only exception appears to be the Alaska Area, which saw a huge number of tests in the early days of the pandemic. By April 3, the region had seen more than 1,000 tests even though areas with comparable service populations had far fewer.
In recent days, testing within the Alaska Area has flattened out. So far, 7 people have tested positive for COVID-19, a number that has held steady since April 6. A day before that, the region had 6 positives.
“Data is reported from IHS, tribal, and urban Indian organization facilities, though reporting by tribal and urban programs is voluntary,” the agency states on its website. “This is a rapidly evolving situation and the IHS will provide updated information as it becomes available and is verified.”
