OCTOBER 23, 2000

Representative Patrick Kennedy (D-Rhode Island) told a Missouri newspaper that the Senate, where his father serves for Massachusetts, is "an old white men's club."

Kennedy is the co-founder of the Native American Caucus for the Democratic National Party. At this year's convention in Los Angeles, he spoke on respecting tribal sovereignty and said only the Democratic Party can bring justice to Native Americans, not Republicans.

Kennedy said he likes the diversity of the House and wouldn't run for Senate because he doesn't feel comfortable there.
