TUESDAY, MARCH 19, 2002 The Minneapolis Star-Tribune: "Either late this week or after a two-week break, the U.S. Senate will get back to considering its energy bill. When it does, the White House and its Senate allies will try to force through a provision opening the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) to oil exploration. They will argue that tapping ANWR oil is a vital matter of national security; ANWR can reduce America's dependence on foreign oil. They will be wrong, again. Just ask the Energy Department." The Daily Oklahoman: "As reported last weekend by syndicated columnist Robert Novak, the Inupiat Eskimos invited two New England senators, Joe Lieberman and John Kerry, to visit them in Kaktovik, Alaska, on the coastal plain of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. The tribe figured that a personal visit by Lieberman, D- Conn., and Kerry, D-Mass., might douse some of their anti- drilling fervor." Get the Story:
