MONDAY, JANUARY 14, 2002 "After the big snowstorm in October, when most of us thought we were in for a long, cold and snowy winter, a Native friend of mine disagreed. His explanation came from the fact that the red willow he uses for tobacco had green to it, which meant to him it would be a warm winter. I thought, but didn't say out loud, "have you had a good look outside?" We had some 12 inches of snow at that time, and we thought it probably would stay on the ground for the rest of the winter.
