MONDAY, NOVEMBER 5, 2001 "I caved. I had resisted as long as I possibly could. I’d held out against the odds and in the face of enormous pressure from friends, family, and She Who Must Not Be Named, aka, my editor (oops!). I’d held out even in the face(s) of two stepdaughters constantly shoving the books under my nose. “Come on John, you should read them if for no other reason than the fact that you and Harry have the same last name!” the girls would say. “But I was adopted,” I informed them. “Besides,” I retorted, “what’s in a name? Why, I once had a guy call me up and expect me to give him money just because his name was ‘Dishes!’”" Get the Story:
