JUNE 22, 2001 Noted blues guitarist John Lee Hooker died in California on Thursday. He was 83. Hooker was born in 1917 near Clarksdale, Mississippi, considered the birthing grounds of the blues. His style was widely respected by the likes of the Rolling Stones, Bonnie Raitt, Led Zeppelin, and Indigenous. Get the Story:
