JULY 17, 2000 Well, he didn't win the Loch Lomond tournament in Scotland, but Notah Begay III, the 27-year-old Isleta Pueblo / Navajo golfer from New Mexico, came close. After putting his way into first place after the close of the third round of play, Begay ended the day of play on Friday with a final score of 205, 8-under-par. He shared the lead with Tom Lehman of the United States and Ernie Els of South Africa. But he lost to both and Colin Montgomerie of Scotland, shooting a 72 on the fourth round. He placed fourth with a final score of 277. Nevertheless, its been a comeback of sorts for Begay, who began the season on a less than exemplary note, both in playing and in his private life turned public. He served a one-week jail term for driving under the influence in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Related Stories:
