The Department of Interior's drawn out Internet shutdown has had far-reaching effects on daily business, as a dispatch from The Billings Gazette notes.

Everything from electronic payroll to law enforcement systems to access to federal records has been cut due to the court-ordered disconnect. U.S. District Judge Royce Lamberth ordered the shutdown after it was shown how easy the assets of 300,000 American Indians could be hacked.

Although Lamberth's order only affected individual Indian trust data, the department shut down every system.
