Seneca compact debated

WEDNESDAY, MAY 1, 2002

The Seneca Nation held the first of two informational sessions on a proposed gaming compact on Tuesday.

The meeting was heated with opponents of gaming clashing with tribal leaders. Only about 100 people showed up.

Opponents say the compact signs away too much sovereignty. The tribe hopes the casino will bring economic success.

The compact would apply to two off-reservation casinos and a potential third on the reservation.
