WEDNESDAY, APRIL 17, 2002

An Arizona legislative panel approved a bill to implement gaming compacts with the state's tribes.

The Senate Government Committee made some changes to the compacts, leading tribes and Gov. Jane Hull to show caution about the effect on their agreement. But in a setback to the racetrack industry which has vehemently opposed Indian gaming, the committee rejected a proposal to allow video lottery terminals at their facilities.
