Maine casino set for rejection

FRIDAY, MARCH 8, 2002 States across the country are looking to gambling to increase revenue but ever the independent, Gov. Angus King of Maine is just saying no. In response to a proposal by the Passamaquoddy Tribe to buy land in eastern Maine for a casino, he vetoed the bill. He now says he will do the same for a casino in the southern port of Kittery, where the tribe and the Penobscot Nation are hoping to land. The two tribes on Monday are presenting a "State of the Tribes" address to to the Legislature. Get the Story:
