City ordered to show cause for casinos

TUESDAY, MARCH 26, 2002 A federal judge on Monday order the city of Detroit to show cause why three casinos should not be shut down. The order comes in a case brought by the Vieux Desert Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians. The tribe has successfully shown it was illegally shut out of the selection process for the casinos. The city has until April 10 to respond to the order. The casinos employ 7,500 and have generated hundreds of millions of dollars since becoming operational in 1997. Get the Story:
