Paper marks anniversary of Foxwoods

FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 15, 2002 Ten years ago today, the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation of Connecticut opened its casino, the first in the state, and The New London Day marks the occasion in style. Featuring interviews with chairman Kenny Reels, vice-chairman Skip Hayward, casino officials and gaming experts, the features recount the past 10 years for the tribe. Reels and Hayward rarely conduct interviews with the press. The paper also includes the stories of three towns that have been dramatically impacted by the Foxwoods casino. Ledyard, North Stonington and Preston have fought the tribe in a number of areas, including trust land, and are opposed to seeing two more Pequot tribes gain federal recognition. Get the Story:
