MAY 3, 2000 The National Indian Gaming Commission is investigating a series of charges against the Mescalero Apache casino in New Mexico. Last week, tribal members had warned that the casino was facing heavy fines. The NIGC would not confirm the exact number or nature of the violations but a spokesman said that violations are not uncommon as casinos must conform to about 1,600 different gaming standards.
