APRIL 20, 2000 Fifteen Oklahoma tribes currently issue car tags. The Cherokee Nation hopes to be the next and if all goes well, to form a compact with the state to clear up potential legal uncertainties. Some 100,000 Cherokee live in 14 northeastern Oklahoma counties.
