'Chief' indicted on felony fraud

THURSDAY, MAY 2, 2002 The chief of the Western Mohegan Tribe of New York has been indicted on five counts of felony fraud for allegedly sing false Social Security numbers. Ron "Golden Eagle" Roberts faces up to 30 years in prison and millions of dollars in fines if convicted. He is set to be arraigned in federal court today, reports The Middletown Times Herald-Record. The Western Mohegan Tribe is not federally recognized. The group has reportedly partnered with the Modoc Tribe of Oklahoma, which is acknowledged, on a casino in the Catstkills region in New York.
