Rival Paugussett group locked out

TUESDAY, APRIL 30, 2002 A federal judge last week refused to allow a rival group to intervene in a federal recognition lawsuit filed by the Golden Hill Paugussett Tribe of Connecticut. U.S. District Judge Janet Bond Arterton's ruling affects the True Golden Hill Paugussett Tribal Council. The group claims to be the true leadership of the tribe. Arterton has ordered the Bureau of Indian Affairs to make a final determination by the end of the year. The tribe has received three prior negative decisions but former Deputy Assistant Secretary Michael Anderson agreed to reconsider. Get the Story:
