Mohegan group seeks recognition

TUESDAY, APRIL 2, 2002 Claiming descent from the historic Mohegan Tribe, the Native American Mohegans is seeking recognition from the federal government. The tribe attempted to have a federal court declare its status. A judge dismissed the claim in February. The group is not to be confused with the Mohegan Tribe and Nation Inc., also known as the Confederation of the Mohegan-Pequot American Indian Nation and Affiliated Tribes Inc. Get the Story:
