MONDAY, JANUARY 14, 2002 The recently created Legislature of the Crow Tribe of Montana is getting to work this week after members held organizational meetings. An open house is being held today and policy work including the selection of officials will occur today and tomorrow. Formal hearings on legislation will begin Wednesday. The 18-member Legislature was created by a constitution that was approved by voters last fall. The constitution also disbanded the tribal council, of which every adult was a member, a move that has been opposed by dissidents. The dissidents have refused to recognize the elimination of the council and held another council meeting on Saturday. Get the Story:
