Man killed on Mescalero Reservation

THURSDAY, JANUARY 10, 2002 A man accused of shooting another to death on the Mescalero Apache Reservation in southern New Mexico has pleaded guilty to several tribal crimes and has been fined. Jericho Chino, son of the tribe's vice president Freddie Chino, has been sentenced to 720 days in jail and fined $1,440 for the shooting death of Sheldon Shanta this past Sunday. Federal authorities are considering filing felony charges. Get the Story:
