Billie given two life sentences

APRIL 20, 2001 Kirk Douglas Billie on Thursday was sentenced to two life sentences for the murders of his two sons. Billie will serve the sentences concurrently, ordered Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Leon Firtel. Billie is a member of the Miccosukee Tribe of Florida. The tribe succeeded in preventing federal and state authorities from coming onto tribal land to interview or subpoena witnesses to the crime. But the crime occurred off-reservation, so Billie was tried and convicted in state court. Billie claimed he didn't know his sons were in the back seat of his ex-girlfriend's vehicle when he drove it into a canal. Get the Story:
