Tribes exempt from anti-affirmative action

MARCH 28, 2001 The North Dakota State Senate on Tuesday approved an anti-affirmative action bill which exempts tribes from its provisions. The bill aims to outlaw the use of affirmative action in various programs and is based on Proposition 209, passed by California voters. So far though, it has been changed by the House to exempt programs which benefit tribes. Yesterday, the Senate approved an exemption to allow higher education programs that benefit diversity. The bill now goes back to the House. Get the Story:
